Dressing for Success with a Torque Converter Bracket

I have a question for those of you who recycle transmissions. When you remove a transmission and prep it for resale, how do you keep the torque converter connected to the bell housing and protect it?

I”ve seen a lot of methods in my time, from the clunky to the sublime. They pretty much all accomplished the purpose of keeping the two pieces as a matched set, but some of them weren”t what I would call professional. You can tie some twine around your waist and call it a belt, but the overall effect isn”t what anyone would call “dressed for success.”

In a busy auto recycling operation, there are a lot of moving parts. Things get moved around and relocated and it”s not long before the occasional transmission gets separated from its torque converter. Even if they do stay together, will the bustle of handling and transport leave the converter any the worse for wear?

It seems to me that anything that would minimize the possibility of damage and returns is worth doing as long as it isn”t cost prohibitive. When you implement a procedure that reduces mishaps you benefit two ways: You enjoy presumed savings from reduced and Doing things a “certain way” can reassure them that you care about preventing damage, leading to repeat business. For many shrewd business managers, that second reason in and of itself is reason enough to adopt new techniques, even if the old way worked just fine.

As the auto recycling industry evolves and becomes more sophisticated, streamlined methods find their way into common use. Just as some ancient haberdasher once responded to the need for a better way to hold one”s pants up by introducing the modern belt to society, an alert industrial supply company saw the need for a more practical and elegant way to keep transmissions united with their torque converters. The introduction of a mass-produced torque converter bracket and its wide distribution throughout the auto recycling industry has been a boon to all those in favor of a simple and effective way to perform a common task.

One look at the bracket installed on a rebuilt transmission and its obvious that this simple device meets all the requirements of the discerning auto recycler. It is simple, inexpensive, effective and even elegant. Trannys come in a lot of dimensions, yet this one bracket seems to work in nearly all situations. Not only does it keep the two parts united through thick and thin, it keeps the converter from slapping around inside the bell housing and thus minimizes the possibility of damage from jostling.

Very often the best solution to problems are the simplest. This bracket with its carriage bolt threaded through any available mounting hole on the bell housing is simplicity at its best.
